1. Temporary Files
Temporary files are created by the operating system during computer usage. The software which uses a large amount of data like graphics, videos can create temporary files. These temporary files are left behind even after the task is over, leading to un-wanted disk space.
Temporary files are even created for backup, for instance, Microsoft Office and Outlook save a temporary file of the document in order to recover the data if the office or outlook crashes unexpectedly.
The temporary file is supposed to be deleted once the file is been saved. But this is not always the case, which leads to loss of space from Hard disk memory.
2. Low Disk Space Warnings
Low Disk Space refers to a Hard disk or any volume of data that is running out of space. When any drive on your computer has less than 10% free disk space, the warning will pop up at the bottom right side of the screen constantly. It means that the partition does not has enough free space, which can cause the system to run slower and the system application to respond late.
3. System Logs
System Log files contain the events that occur within the operating system such as driver errors, start-up sign-in and sign out errors. These log files are automatically generated whenever an event or specific task occurs on the system which builds up the space in your hard disk memory leading to slowing the speed, and performance of the computer.
Resolution:
- Step 1: In the search box on the taskbar, type disk clean-up, and click on Disk Clean-up.
- Step 2: Choose the drive you want to clean up, and then click on OK.
- Step 3: Select the file types you want to get clear under Files to delete. You can click on the file type to view a description about it.
- Step 4: Click on OK.
If you need to free up more space, you can also delete system files:
- Step 1: In Disk Clean-up, select Clean up system files.
- Step 2: Select the file types you want to clear. You can click on the file type to view a description about it.
- Step 3: Click on OK.
Avoid Fake Cleaning Apps
There are numerous “PC cleaners” available online that are completely useless. These programs provide a “free scan” that uncovers thousands of “problems,” including the nonsensical classification of every cookie on your computer as a “privacy concern.” Then they demand that you spend a significant sum of money to “clean” everything up. It is preferable to utilize the Windows built-in utility.
